Drug Testing
In 2007, the Pacific Resource Partnership played a pivotal role in legalizing the use of oral fluid drug testing in Hawaii. With support of the Hawaii Carpenters Union and its signatory contractors, PRP helped make Hawaii one of the first states in the nation to adopt this less intrusive and less costly form of workplace drug testing.
PRP believes that drug abuse is a major health and safety issue for people in the construction industry. Rising substance abuse has resulted in higher workers' compensation claims and a less safe work environment.
Traditional urinalysis costs more than $200 and takes up to four hours to yield results. Oral drug screens –which use a swab of saliva– are a fraction of the cost and produce nearly instant results. Oral fluid drug testing offers a more efficient and cost-effective means to guarantee a safe workplace.
